Del Rio, 2005
Kansas City Doll Fair, 2005
Best of Show: Cloth – Non Professional
I’m a 5th generation Texan on both sides of my family, so
the whole cowboy genre is dear to me. I adore the glamour of the
40’s and 50’s, so Del Rio was created. Although she
got her start from a Tony Lama personalized purse found at a resale
shop, the true inspiration came from the old Roy Rogers and Gene
Autry movies I watched while making her. Dale Evans knew how to
dress.
The boots are my favorite part of Del Rio.
I had wanted to make a small pair of cowboy boots for a long
time and had fun doing
them. They are made of painted leather from a favorite old coat
of my dad’s. He wanted me to “make my dolls.” In
honor of him, I try to incorporate something of his in every piece.
Love you, Dad…and miss you.
