The Paper Crane, 2006

Material Girls had an “Odd Body” challenge in which a doll was to be made from a found object. This doll started out as a Japanese lantern. I added little squatty feet and decorative panels to the skirt, then built an upper torso that could be removed. Her face is cloth over paperclay, and her hair is from a yet to be identified vintage fur piece. In her basket, she carries a origami paper crane made by my sweet daughter, Taylor.
