What a Model Should Be, 2004
Material Girls challenge
This was my first all cloth with wire armature
doll. I was torn between two images, the exaggerated posture
of a runway model and
the truly Godly woman. One image focused on outward appearance,
the other on inward beauty. So, combining the two, and falling
back on my graphic background, I decided on “designer” labels
for a somewhat shapeless form. The labels reflect the fruit of
the Spirit (Galatians 5:22). My model’s lipstick is a little
smeared, and a hat covers her not-so-perfect hair, but she walks
with confidence, knowing she is a reflection of what a woman should
be. The final label on back, “& Matching Accessories,” allows
us a little room for self-expression.
